Kindergarten Self Portraits: A first exploration in drawing ourselves
Kindergarten Snowy Day in the City:After sharing The Snowy Day, by Ezra Keats, students used torn paper to create pictures of snow in a city, with skyscrapers, traffic lights, a boy in a snow suit, and more...
1st grade Salamander Worlds: Inspired by the book, The Salamander Room
1st Grade Value Collage and Texture Pyramids: First grade has been working on the elements of art. They explored many shades of gray in between white and black, creating winter in the woods collages. And they used a rubbing techniques to fill a pyramid picture with texture.
1st Grade Textured Chinese Dragons: Students looked at examples of dragons in Chinese art, then used many textures and materials to create their own Chinese New Year dragons.
2nd grade Monet Trees: Inspired by paintings and drawings by Claude Monet
2nd grade Owl Moon paintings: After reading Owl Moon, by , students created pencil sketches, added masking tape where they wanted bright white snow, and then used blue, black, and white to create cold, snowy, nighttime in the woods paintings. Last step was to remove the masking tape-wow!
3rd grade Leaf Animals: Using real leaves to build animals
3rd grade Paper Weaving: Students looked at Native American textiles, then used warm and cool colors to weave these designs
3rd grade Team Art Project: Students worked in teams to create collage versions of famous artworks. They examined the paintings below: Hokusai's Yoshitsune Washing His Horse, Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Georgia O'Keefe's White Trumpet Flower, Pablo Picasso's Three Musicians, Henri Rousseau's Sleeping Gypsy, and Edward Hopper's Night Hawks. Then the teams used a grid process to plan and create a large version of the famous painting.
3rd grade Birch Trees: Students listened to, and discussed "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost, looked at pictures of birch trees, and examined pieces of birch bark. Then, using vine charcoal, students created snowy birch woods
4th Grade Self Portraits: "Me, as a New Hampshire Explorer"
4th Grade Sneaker Worlds: Designs created to celebrate the Madison Thanksgiving Run
5th Grade Self Portraits: "Me, as Half Animal, Half Human
5th Grade Soup Cans: Pop Art and Andy Warhol inspired students to draw their soup cans in an extra large size, and painting them with complementary color fluorescent paint.
5th Grade Super Heroes: Students imagined super heroes with super powers to help their school, community and the world, addressing ideas of respect, safety, and responsibility.
6th Grade Self Portraits: This project included 1/2 digital photo and 1/2 pencil drawing (photo not allowed online)
6th grade Greek Vases: Students created paintings inspired by Art History
6th Grade Op Art: Students studied the work of Victor Vasarely, and applied his system for creating optical illusions of space in his work.
